Classes meet April 13, 20, 27 and May 4
This painting course is designed to develop or continue your art making practice with a minimum of time, space and materials. We meet at various locations in Providence, RI, subjects include unusual interiors, still life and cityscape. Each class consists of group demonstration and individual instruction in watercolor, pencil and pen. This non-traditional approach to watercolor was developed for travel sketching: students have used the methods discovered in class in their homes, studios and around the globe. Homework includes two sketches per week (can be done in as little as three minutes per sketch).
The beauty of these on-the-spot lessons is they allow us to find our way into any subject matter, engage with it fully, and carry away that experience in our sketchbooks. The non-traditional approach, originally developed for travel sketching, hinges on a loose initial impression. Students of all levels of experience—from beginner to professional—have expressed surprise (shock, even!) and delight at the results of this approach. They have taken the methods used in class back to their homes, studios and around the globe.
You will receive a list of roving locations upon registration.
Reserve your spot and attend as many classes as your schedule allows.
For New Students: If you would like to purchase a ready to use portable studio supply kit with the course, you can do so by choosing the “course with portable studio kit” option for $230. Otherwise you can find a list of suggested materials here. Feel free to bring whatever materials you have to class, check out what others are using and, if necessary, adjust as you go.
